Step back in time and learn about Gallatin County’s heritage. The Gallatin History Museum in Bozeman offers a unique glimpse into the area’s past. Permanent and changing exhibits feature early area history and artifacts, unique local stories, photography, a life-sized pioneer cabin, agricultural history, and jail and law enforcement displays. Visit the museum's Montana and local history bookstore and active research library. Staff are available to assist with research projects, genealogy, and photograph archive questions. The Gallatin History Museum is a 501(c)(3) non profit and does not receive any tax dollars but instead relies on memberships, donations, and memorials to operate. Members receive a magazine that features articles on local history, free admission and bookstore discounts.

Located in the former county jail building (1911 to 1982), the museum maintains displays illustrating the unique histories of a variety of people who have called Southwest Montana home. Permanent and changing exhibits feature early area history and artifacts, unique local stories, photography, a life-sized pioneer cabin, agricultural history, and jail and law enforcement displays. The Gallatin History Museum is a 501(c)(3) non profit and does not receive any tax dollars but instead relies on memberships, donations, and memorials to operate. Members receive a magazine that features articles on local history, free admission and bookstore discounts.
