Lehigh Gorge trains, a trademark of the Reading and Northern Railroad, take a 70 minute round-trip tour following the Lehigh River over bridges, through Glen Onoko, into the Lehigh Gorge State Park. High-rising cliffs and mountain scenery surround the train along the route to Old Penn Haven. You will see hikers, rafters, mountain bikers, and wildlife along the railroad. You will learn about railroad lore, wildlife, the history of the anthracite coal region, and the people who launched America into the Industrial Age. Dish It Out Pottery Studio is a paint your own pottery studio located in Charlotte, NC in the Stonecrest shopping plaza. We are a walk in studio; no reservations needed for groups of 8 or less. Please call ahead for large groups. Stop in, select pottery pieces to paint and our staff will explain the entire process, demonstrate techniques and assist as needed. Once you are done, leave the pieces with us and we glaze and fire them in our kilns. We will call in about a week when they are ready for pick up. President James K. Polk State Historic Site
This site is located on land once owned by the parents of James K. Polk, the 11th U.S. president. The state historic site commemorates significant events in the Polk administration: the Mexican-American War, settlement of the Oregon boundary dispute, and the annexation of California. Reconstructions of typical homestead buildings—a log house, separate kitchen, and barn—are authentically furnished. The visitor center features a film on Polk's life and exhibits on his family and tumultuous presidency.
