Located at an altitude of approximately 750m, Tonaru is known as the "Machu Picchu of the Orient." During the early 20th century, it served as a mining base, leading to the development of residential areas, schools, and entertainment venues, forming a unique town. The Tonaru Historical Museum showcases the Besshi Copper Mine and the lifestyle and culture of Tonaru during its era of prosperity. Through dioramas, photographs, videos, and exhibits of copper-related products and ores, visitors can experience the lives of the people who worked in the copper mine at that time. Some parts of the surrounding area, such as the storage facilities and cable car stations, are still preserved, making it a recommended spot to learn about a bygone era.
