Ijams Nature Center is a 315-acre member- and visitor-supported nonprofit organization, where people of all ages can hike, bike, paddle, climb, learn, explore, or simply enjoy nature in Knoxville, TN. The grounds and trails are open every day from 8:00am until dusk. The Visitor Center, including exhibits, gift shop, offices, and restrooms are open during regular business hours. Admission to the park is free, and we gladly accept donations. Fees for programs and special events vary. Chattanooga is the Birthplace of the Medal of Honor. Come visit the the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center in downtown Chattanooga and learn about the history of our nation's highest military award for valor, from the First Medals awarded for action in and around Chattanooga during 1863 to the present day. Through the inspirational stories of valor, the Heritage Center works to educate Americans about the six character traits associated with the Medal of Honor and inspire visitors to develop the highest qualities of character demonstrated by its recipients: Patriotism, Citizenship, Courage, Integrity, Sacrifice and Commitment. The Heritage Center offers hand-on activities for visitors of all ages and was particularly designed to provide children and student educational opportunities.
