The Old Jail
Open Tues.-Sat. 10am-4pm. We suggest you call ahead to ensure tour guide availability. No appointment needed for library. The Franklin County Historical Society - Kittochtinny has been the county's historical society since 1898 and resides in the Old Jail, built in 1818. Guests may take a guided tour the original and 1880 cell blocks, dungeons, exercise yard, and other areas of the building. Admission: Adults $8, children $7, family rates available. See website for details. The tour involves going up and down steps and takes about an hour. A four room genealogy library is available to guests on the second floor of the jail. Librarians are on duty to assist with research. The Society also operates the John Brown House. Report to the jail first if taking a tour of the John Brown House. The gift shop is open to walk ins during open hours.

Rockcliffe Mansion is an amazing Thirteen Thousand Five Hundred SF, Thirty room, Grand Residence built to overlook the Mighty Mississippi between 1898 and 1900 by Lumber Baron John J Cruikshank, Jr. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Most of the original antique furnishings and fixtures are preserved. The Mansion is filled with rich Mahogany, Oak and Walnut appointments, magnificent Palladian windows and the finest interior decorations from Europe and America. Guided Tours are available daily. See what a progressive farming community, spread across some 30 sloping acres, looked like in the mid-1800s. Missouri Town 1855 is composed of more than 25 buildings dating from 1820 - 1860. This living history museum uses original structures, furnishings and equipment. Wakarusa River Valley Heritage Museum
The museum sits on the beautiful banks of Clinton Lake in the Bloomington Park area. It is open to the public from May through September on Saturdays and Sundays or by appointment throughout the year. Occasionally, the museum may be closed during regular business hours on weekends for private events. Please call ahead to confirm open status if you are coming from out-of-town. Visitors enjoy rotating exhibits as well as permanent displays depicting the Early Years of the Wakarusa Valley Communities, One-Room Schoolhouse Education, Agriculture in the Wakarusa Valley, and the Angels of Freedom - Underground Railroad Heroes from the area.
