Charleville Castle
Tullamore Ireland
Charleville Castle, the Masterpiece of Francis Johnston, once derelict, vacant, closed-off and decaying, has been rescued from near ruin by volunteers of the Charleville Castle Community. Built originally as a dramatic Power Center in the Midlands - a most important Irish symbol of the Union with Great Britain 1801 - it is a project of the Peace Process - authenticate, intact and "of the people". The long avenue to the forecourt is now fully open - some areas require supervised access or guides [set donation] - Volunteers rotate on duty 24/7 - 365 days a year - sharing actively with the public. It is famous for its ghosts stories and unique architecture - it is not a state-funded project and depends entirely on volunteers and supporters - the local community and many thousands more openly express love and support for the Castle. Come visit - we hope you will get a real feeling of what it is to keep a big Castle like this alive - hopefully your visit can be enhanced by a guided tour.

Hugh Lynch's Pub
Kilbride Street, Tullamore Co Offaly Ireland
The property on Kilbride Street, known today as Hugh Lynch’s, has been operating as a public house since the early 1800’s. In the early 1900’s it was bought by the Williams Group, founders of the D.E. Williams Distillery, and run as a public bar and grocery, along with many other outlets in the Irish Midlands, from which they sold their growing whiskey brand “Tullamore Dew”.Hugh and Mary Teresa Lynch took over the pub in the 1960’s and the front bar remains largely unchanged ever since. The Premises went through a major renovation in 2008 adding a stylish new Bar downstairs and a function room upstairs. It is ideal for a private party and is also used for the live gigs. In 2010 an additional party room “ROUND” in the adjoining premises. The Pub stocks over 50 Irish whiskeys, each one tagged with a short description. The staff will be more than happy for you to examine the bottles before choosing which one you want to taste, or alternatively you can opt for one of the Tasting packages on offer.Hugh Lynch’s attracts a mix of older and younger clients. There is live music in the lounge every Thursday during the Summer Months, a band every Friday and on a Saturday night a local DJ plays a mix of chart music and old favourites to a lively crowd. It has won many awards over the last few years and it’s a great place to call into for a friendly chat and good whiskey during a visit to Tullamore.
