When King George V (1819 - 1878) of Hanover once made Marienburg Castle a present to his wife, Queen Marie (1818 - 1907), he had no idea that his proof of love would one day be one of the most impressive architectural monuments in Germany. The design of Marienburg Palace is reminiscent of a medieval hilltop castle. Its fairytale appearance originates from the Queen's wish for a romantic summer residence. Today Marienburg Castle has become all that Queen Marie had always dreamed of: a centre for music, art and culture. The castle impresses with its almost completely preserved interior decdecoration and its extensive exterior appearance. All year round you can explore the castle and its many fascinating features. Various guided tours and changing thematic topics in the castle and exhibition rooms will give you an insight into an outstanding building of the neo-Gothic architectural style as well as into the eventful history of the Guelphs.
