This citizens' festival has been held in Mobara since 1955. The area around the main shopping arcade, centering on Mobara station, is festooned with 350 bamboo decorations. Various places around the city are also decked with paper lanterns and Tanabata (Star Festival) decorations. During the festival period, a huge number of yosakoi (Japanese modern dance) teams give energetic performances in the shopping arcade and the City Meeting Hall at the Yosakoi Summer Camp. There is a wide of variety of events, including awa odori (traditional choreographed dancing) in procession and on stage, Tanabata odori (Star Festival dancing), a music and dance stage, and comedy performances. The festivities entertain performers and spectators alike.
