The annual autumn festival of Kuriyama Temman Shrine, held every September 24th, attracts a great many visitors because it is the last autumn festival of the year in Hokkaido. More than 300 stalls are set up, and the entrance road to the shrine is thronged with visitors. One popular attraction is the plant market, which continues until late at night. On the 25th, a portable shrine is carried on foot through the town streets amid boisterous, rhythmic shouting by the people. The festival also includes events such as a ballad-singing show and dances.
