Minami Koshigaya Awa Odori
Koshigaya Saitama Prefecture
This Awa dance festival began in 1985 and has been steadily gaining popularity to the point that it is now counted among the top three Awa dance festivals in Japan along with the Tokushima City and Tokyo Koenji Awa dance festivals. The festival features a variety of dance types including the Nagashi dance where the dancers walk though the city streets, the Butai dance where the dancers perform on elaborately decorated stages, the Kumi dance that allows for more individual expression, and the Wa dance that is characterized by a more freeform performance. These various dances take place across a number of locations and seem to envelop the whole city in the festive rhythm of the Awa dance.

Koshigaya Fireworks
Koshigaya Saitama Prefecture
A fireworks festival that takes place around the Koshigaya Central Community Center and the banks of the Kasai Irrigation Channel. A rich variety of 5,000 complex fireworks are shot off in rapid succession, barely leaving you time to "ooh" or "aah." They are launched off from the center of the channel and can be viewed from either side. The fireworks also go off relatively close to the ground, so you can see them in dazzling detail. Lots of stalls plying various wares line the streets -- it's festival time!
