Arai Checkpoint

Arai Checkpoint, the only existing Sekisho checkpoint in Japan, is designated as a national special historic site. Boat Race Hamanako

Hatago Kinokuniya Museum

Named Kinokuniya, it was operated operated as an inn for the Kishu domain in 1716. It was rebuilt in the early Meiji era after a fire. However, it still retains certain elements of late Edo Period inn construction and has been activated as a facility that conveys the culture of the hatago and Tokaido inns, and now is open to the public. Honkouji Temple

This precious historical building is registered as a National Important Cultural Property. And there are also many other Important Cultural Artifacts. In spring, tons of cherry blossoms are around and a sketching contest is held. KITAHARA Hakushu, the famous poet, was attracted by the quiet atmosphere and wrote many poems during his stay in 1932 . A poem roughly translated "Nothing else to say besides the water sound" is carved on the monument in front of the main hall.

Komatsuro (Old Geisha House)

Komatsuro operated as a geisha house as well as a folksy Japanese restaurant from the Taisho period until 1945. Now it is run as a public gallery on the 1st floor and a tatami room on the 2nd floor. Inside, visitors can view books used by geisha for practicing samisen, taiko and other Japanese musical instruments, combs, eyebrow pencils. Visitors can also see its unique layout, and Bengal-red colored walls. It is closed on Mondays and New Year holidays.
