Tapiche Jungle Reserve
Avenida de la Marina 2288, Iquitos 16000 Peru
The Tapiche Reserve is the newest (since 2023) of the rainforest conservation areas operated by Project Amazonas out of Iquitos, Peru. We protect primary forest, rehabilitate disturbed areas, and support local communities with eco-friendly employment that provide alternatives to hunting and logging. We believe that animals belong in their natural habitat, and not be domesticated or manipulated for our entertainment. As the most remote of our sites, Tapiche requires commitment to get there, but the high density and biodiversity of animals and plants wows both nature enthusiasts and researchers. Globally endangered species including giant otters and red uakari monkeys are regularly encountered. Hoatzins, five species of macaws, and the largest known agami heron colony are just a few of the birding delights. With new construction at our lodge, you can have a comfortable and adventurous stay, while knowing that you are making a positive impact on both local people and the forest.
