The music box was first introduced to Japan by a Duch trader in 1852. At that time the music box was referred to as 'Orugern' from the Dutch meaning Organ. Over time the pronunciation changed to 'Orgel.' The Otaru Music Box Museum Hall Number 2, the Antique Museum, holds exhibitions of numerous well-preserved antique music boxes and mechanical dalls(automata) of historical value, in addition to featuring them in mini concerts. Futhermore, the museum shop offers select music boxes, including ones made in Japan ans Swizerland whose sounds are like those played on musical instruments, boxes with high sound quality and simple, fun boxes.
