Originally a dormitory cluster for officials built by the Japanese Alishan-region forestry authority, the buildings here are mainly constructed of Alishan cypress wood. In days past, this was a place where people lived and busily interacted. The village covers an area of about 3.4 hectares, and consists of nearly 30 Japanese-style wooden buildings. Each single brick, tile, and plank helps describe the texture of life for forestry-sector personnel over the past century. During your visit you’ll get an intimate glimpse into the early days of Alishan forestry development.

Chiayi Loco Shed Park was named "Beimen Repair Plant" during the Japanese colonial period. With the expansion of the railway, it started the operation in 1912 and had been aiming to build and maintain the Alishan railway, which has already lasted for one century. It plays an important role to repair the rolling stocks and produce the components, especially Alishan cypress-carriage, a masterpiece in the repair plant. There are many retired train preserving in Beimen Repair Plant. However, on August 23, 1993, the fire destroyed repair plants and old trains. Nowadays, the authority rebuilds the plant and preserves some precious trains in the yard. It was renamed as Chiayi Loco Shed Park in 2005 to allow tourists to visit this meaningful place.

The two buildings of the Chiayi City Historical Site Museum were built in the 18th year of the Showa era (1943) in the Japanese occupation period. The Zhaiguan was the place where the shrine worshipped and prepared before the sacrificial offering, and the Shewusuo was a shrine. Administrative Office. On January 27th, 2019, the Museum of Historical Records was opened. The museum displayed the people of Chiayi and Chiayi.
