Chateau comtal Musee de Boulogne-sur-Mer
Rue De Bernet Parking bd Eurvin, 62200 Boulogne-sur-Mer France

To learn and be amazed, head to Place Godefroy de Bouillon in Boulognesur-Mer. Here proudly sits the oldest building in the city! 47 meters high, the belfry has dominated the city since the 12th century. Ceded by Philippe Hurepel, Count of Boulogne (and son of King Philippe Auguste!) to the bourgeois of the city, like all belfries, it symbolizes communal freedoms. Facing the monument, one is surprised by the ensemble formed with the town hall, which came to be added much later in the 18th century. The use of brick and stone is a rare combination of materials in Boulogne-sur-Mer... The two buildings alone embody the different styles of architecture over time. Exciting !

Monument A Mariette
Le Square Mariette, 62200 Boulogne-sur-Mer France
Square Mariette pays homage to the famous Boulogne Egyptologist, frozen in bronze and who, from the top of this pyramid, contemplates the city where he was born in 1821. Auguste Mariette (1821-1881) is one of these great scholars who brought honor to their hometown in the 19th century. Discoverer of major archaeological sites in Egypt and fervent opponent of the dilapidation of Egyptian heritage, Auguste Mariette is the founder of the Cairo Museum, in front of which he is buried. Scholar and man of letters, he is also the author of the libretto of the famous opera Aïda, composed by Verdi. A replica of the funerary and solar boat of the pharaoh Cheops completes since 2004 this commemorative and explicit plant environment.
