LETTL-Museum fur surreale Kunst
Zeuggasse, 9, 86150 Augsburg, Bavaria Germany
The "LETTL Museum", which opened in December 2019, exhibits surreal paintings by Wolfgang Lettl (1919-2008). The museum is run by the "Lettl-Verein", a non-profit, civic organisation. Lettl's paintings invite and challenge you to read them, and when you do so, you suddenly find yourself in a story that you don't know whether it's your own or the artist's. However, Lettl does not want to confuse with this kind of deliberate confusion, but rather wants to invite to participate and recognize. By questioning reality, he creates new realities behind things; dreams and fantasies are not demystified but, on the contrary, elevated to the status of tangible, unheard -of new realities. Lettl shows us that the world is not intact, but his pictures reveal that he would give anything if it came into balance - out of respect for creation and out of love for people, out of the joy of clever play.
