Lancashire Mining Museum Limited
Higher Green Lane Astley Green, Astley M29 7JB England
The last remaining pithead gear and winding engine in the Lancashire coalfield. Both are scheduled monuments and have listed building status. The winding engine is run monthly and for event days. Free to enter, the museum is run by volunteers and reliant upon donations. We have a Pit Whistle Tearoom selling drinks and light snacks. A replica miner’s cottage. The museum has a passenger railway open for event days, suitable for wheelchair users, using colliery and quarry locomotives. Passengers sit in original underground manriders as used by coalminers. Throughout the year there are family events, afternoon teas etc follow us on Facebook or Instagram @lancashireminingmuseum for more details. There’s the Tally Shop to buy a little souvenir of your visit. We are dog friendly but they must be on a lead at all times. If you’d like to be part of preserving our heritage we’d love to hear from you. We hope you enjoy your visit and look forward to seeing your comments.
