Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is located at Mile 79 of the Seward Highway. AWCC is a non-profit sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research, and quality animal care. The sanctuary maintains over 200 acres of spacious habitats for resident animals to feel at home displaying their natural wild behavior. It is common for visitors to see brown bears swimming, moose strutting, wood bison roaming, muskox playing, wolves posing, porcupines climbing, and more! AWCC has been able to provide care for hundreds of displaced animals because visitors to AWCC have made critical contributions in the form of admission fees, tours, donations, memberships, and gift shop purchases. You'll see moose, caribou, Dall sheep, mountain goats, muskox and the three bear species native to Alaska - polar, brown and black bear. The zoo also has river otters, harbor seals, eagles, owls and small mammals. Enjoy an espresso and Filipino pastry in the Zoo Coffee Shop run by Kape Espresso Tayo located in the center of the 20+ acres of wooded, natural grounds and trails. The Gift Shop has items for all ages including Snow Leopard Trust merchandise handmade in Mongolia. It is located just outside of the zoo entrance. Hours vary in length with the seasons, ranging from 10a-4p during winter months to 9a-8p during the long summer days. The zoo offers daily tours and feeding experiences from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
